Gifted and Talented

Program Goals and Objectives:

The overall goals of the program are to further develop and strengthen the traits that are characteristics of the gifted and talented student learning – to develop greater insight into broad-based issues and problems through the use of higher-level thinking skills motivation – to strengthen task commitment creativity – to stimulate curiosity and leadership – to strengthen self- confidence.

The program is designed for our gifted and talented student grades kindergarten through grade twelve. The program is intended to provide a curriculum that is both differentiated and appropriated for the specialized needs of students who are advanced in their thinking and learning processes.

The Arkansas definition of Gifted and Talented students serves as the guide in providing services and opportunities of students identified as gifted and talented in Arkansas.

“Gifted and talented children and youth are those of high potential or ability whose learning characteristics and educational needs require qualitatively differentiated educational experiences and/or services. Possession of these talents and gifts, or the potential for their development, will be evidenced through an interaction of above average intellectual ability, task commitment and /or motivation, and creative ability.”
